    Tom was born on September 30, 1949 in Marquette, Michigan. In 1951, his family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Milwaukee's Washington High School in 1967. Following his graduation, he was employed as an Engineering Technician with the City of Milwaukee.

In June of 1968, Tom enlisted in the United States Army. He did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. following basic training; he was assigned to Fort Devens, MA to complete his MOS training with the United State Army Security Agency. After his training was completed at Fort Devens, Tom was sent to Vietnam. Upon arrival at the 509th Radio Research Group, he was further assigned the 372nd Radio Research Company. The 372nd was attached to the 25th Infantry Division in Cu Chi, Vietnam. After completing his tour in Vietnam in June 1970, Tom was assigned to the United States Army Security Agency Southern Command at Fort Clayton in the Canal Zone. Following his assignment in Panama, he was sent to the 7th Radio Research Field Station in Udorn, Thailand.

During his enlistment, Tom was awarded the following: National Defense Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and Good Conduct Medal.

After his enlistment in the military was over, Tom returned to work as an Engineering Technician with the City of Milwaukee. During that time, he attended evening classes at the Milwaukee Area Technical College. His course of study was in the field of industrial electronics.

In 1978, Tom switched jobs and went to work for the United States Postal Service. He is currently a Letter Carrier in West Bend, Wisconsin.

Tom has been married for thirty one years. He has four children and three grand children.
