John was born in and spent his first 15 years in Delphi, Indiana. He graduated from high school at the Kentucky Military Institute, attended Vincennes University in Indiana, and graduated from Murray State University in Kentucky with a B.S. degree in Business Administration.
A Vietnam veteran, John entered the Air Force in November of 1969. He was a distinguished graduate of his Officers Training School class and served in the Strategic Air Command as a navigator on a KC-135 stratotanker. While serving, he received the Vietman Service Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Air Force Longevity Service Award. He was discharged with the rank of Captain in June of 1974.
John served as the Assistant Veteran Service Officer of Waukesha County from June of 1977 to April of 1986. He was then Acting CVSO from April to October of 1986 when he was appointed as the Veterans Service Officer.
John is a life member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, and a member of WACVO, Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1, Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America, AMVETS, and Forty & Eight of the American Legion.
